Weeks Hangar Work Day Photos

Cheeseland Chapter EAA 431 Posted on March 21, 2018 by EAA Chapter 431March 21, 2018

This post is a bit late, but we wanted to share some photos from the March 10 work day at the EAA Weeks Hangar in Oshkosh.  Chapter 431 members were invited to spend a day volunteering with the EAA shop crew so 12 members signed up.

The crew was housed in the EAA Lodge on Friday evening, then spent all day Saturday working on the B-17 “Aluminum Overcast” and the B-25 Berlin Express”. Everyone reports it was a great time doing actual work on these WWII classics that will tour the country this year.

Groundhog Chili Ski Fly-In – Saturday Feb. 3

Cheeseland Chapter EAA 431 Posted on January 28, 2018 by EAA Chapter 431February 2, 2018

UPDATE: Field Condition Report – As of Friday afternoon, the airport was dry and frozen with no snow and patchy ice.

Our annual Groundhog Chili Ski Fly-In is scheduled for Saturday, February 3, 2018 from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Brodhead Airport. The event will be held regardless of weather or field conditions.

As always, fly in, drive in or walk in for a mid-winter break and join us for some winter flying. Chili and all the fixins’ will be available in the Chapter Building for a free-will donation.

Chapter 431 has long hosted an annual skiplane fly-in in the middle of the long, cold Wisconsin winters to get local pilots out of their hibernation and join us for some homemade chili and hangar flying, and for those properly dressed, some chatting and commiseration around the fire pit. The event usually falls around Groundhog Day, so the name has sort of stuck.

Pilots, be advised the airport has had standing water on the runways for the past week. A field condition report will be posted here. Please check before landing.

Visit to EAA Aviation Museum

Cheeseland Chapter EAA 431 Posted on January 9, 2018 by EAA Chapter 431January 9, 2018

On Saturday, January 6, Chapter 431 members took a nice bus trip to the EAA Aviation Museum in Oshkosh. We enjoyed a guided tour of the museum itself and special access to the Weeks Hangar to check out the B-17 “Aluminum Overcast”, which was undergoing its annual inspection. We also got to go through the B-25 “Berlin Express.”

One of the special parts of the trip was our own Jeanne Scholes being interviewed by EAA for their “Timeless Voices” series. We can’t wait to see the final video.

Thanks Monroe Fire and Police Departments, Green County EMS and Sheriff’s Departments for being there. Thank you Monroe Noon Optimists for the food stand and Monroe Junior Optimists for the treats. It feels great working together on a great mission! Last flight was around 4:00 p.m. (Thanks Dan Wegmueller!)
